Tenerife is the largest of the seven Canary Islands. The island is located between the 28th and 29th parallels of north latitude and the 16thand 17th meridians of east longitude, just north of the Tropic of Cancer. Tenerife is centrally located between Gran Canaria, La Gomera, and La Palma.
Tenerife is about 300 km west of the African continent and some 1,300 km southwest of Europe.
The island covers some 2,034 km2 and has a curious triangular shape. In the centre of the island, the impressive Pico del Teide rises 3,718 m above sea level.
